Our story

Welcome to DNA’s Farm! Our names are Dustin and Adrielle and we wanted to let you know a bit more about us!

Dustin grew up on an organic dairy farm outside of Clifford and developed a passion for farming, specifically organic farming. Adrielle on the other hand grew up in uptown Waterloo, Ontario, immersed in city life, although she dreamed of living on a farm when she got older. Who would have thought that these two would meet in high school in Kitchener and with their distinctly different backgrounds they would be able to make their dreams come true!

We started dating in 2012, a few years out of high school, and we have been together ever since. Within the first year of being together we decided that we wanted to farm and after getting married in September 2017 we started pursuing our future goals. Although our initial plans changed, we adjusted and spent a lot of time considering what kind of farm we wanted to have and how to move forward with our dream. When Dustin brought the idea of raising Highland cattle to Adrielle, we knew this is what we wanted. We purchased our farm in the summer of 2017 and then spent the next two and a half years completely gutting and renovating the house in order to make it liveable. Once we were finally able to move onto the farm, the potential for what we wanted to do and achieve with our 100 acres seemed limitless.

We believe strongly in farming organically and want to do everything as naturally as we can, being good stewards of our land and animals. Our first step was to develop our Highland fold, so we purchased our first three cattle in January 2022 and our fold has now grown to just over 40 cattle strong! It is incredible to see something that we had been dreaming of come to life and to share our passion for the animals with our children as well. During the time of renovations, moving, and growing our fold, we also added three children to the mix! Our daughter Ren was born in 2020, her brother Aro came in 2021, and most recently, our newest son Riley was born in 2023. Our children love the cows (okay, well maybe not Riley since he can barely see them at this point) and enjoy going out with us into the pasture. Part of the reason we love Highlands is that they are a docile and gentle breed, so we are able to be in the pasture with them and our children all together. In the summer a highlight is feeding apples to the cattle from our apple tree. Ren and Aro show no fear when it comes to the cows and will walk right up to them and feed them apples out of their hands.

Thanks for getting to know us! We are excited to be able to share our journey with you as we build and grow our farm into the farm of our dreams.
